Regular Weekly Inventory and Grocery Orders

Quarter Hours: 24+ (2 – 3 hour sessions each week)

Each week, Charlee’s Kitchen undergoes a weekly cleaning and inventory count of all perishable and shelf-stable goods, and a grocery order for the following week’s classes is created based on current inventory. In this work study position, you will be assisting the Kitchen Coordinator in the weekly cleaning and tracking of inventory to prepare for the following week’s classes, including preparation of the grocery order for the following week’s classes. Tasks included are:

·        Inventory all food (bulk, refrigerator, vinegars, oils, grains, spices/herbs, etc.)

·       Consolidate class grocery needs into weekly master list for grocery order

·         Wipe down ovens & stove tops

·         Organize refrigerator & freezer contents and wipe down insides/outsides

·         Check all drawers & cupboards to make sure contents are in correct locations

·         Remove and rinse Hobart food trap (& de-lime if necessary)

·         Wipe down stools & chairs and clean wooden table with wood cleaner and dry towel

·         Restock cleaning supplies as needed from back-stock (paper towels, soaps, etc.)

·         Inventory all food (bulk, refrigerator, vinegars, oils, grains, spices/herbs, etc.)

·         Check refrigerator contents and oils/vinegars to ensure ‘opened date’ is indicated. If missing, add colored masking tape and approximate date.

·         Prune & water plants

·         Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by Kitchen Coordinator

End of Term Kitchen Cleaning

Quarter Hours: 10-15 (two 5 hour sessions)

The week(s) in between terms is when Charlee’s Kitchen (Helfgott) undergoes a deep cleaning.  In this work study position, you will be assisting the Kitchen Coordinator in cleaning and setting up the kitchen for the following term. Tasks will be assigned and monitored by the Kitchen Coordinator. Tasks included are:

·         Deep clean ovens (inside & out)

·         Clean stovetops

·         Remove refrigerator/freezer contents, clean inside & outside of appliances, organize and/or replace contents as needed

·         Restock mason jars with dry goods

·         Clean out/wipe down drawers, cupboards, and all contents

·         Clean Hobart dishwasher (inside & out)

·         Dust hoods & filter grates

·         Dust window blinds

·         Wipe down stools & chairs, and clean/oil table

·         Wipe down shelves

·         Assist Kitchen Coordinator with inventory and maintenance logs (appliances, herbs/spices, food)

·         Prune & water plants

·         Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by Kitchen Coordinator

FYI, we try to use all natural and non-hazardous cleaning materials to keep Charlee’s Kitchen free of additional chemicals and fragrances.  (For example: baking soda and hydrogen peroxide to clean the stove tops.)

Qualifications:
Qualifications: NUNM student who has work study funds available, is willing to work at the Helfgott Research building, and can bend, squat, lift up to 20 lbs., and perform duties outlined above. Desired Qualification: Master of Science in Nutrition (MScN) or Nutrition Undergraduate student, or student with experience and/or desire to work in a culinary nutrition setting
